Setting sail from Puerto Montt, the ferry will go towards the south, passing through Puerto Chacabuco, a neuralgic point in the Austral highway, important and the only way to connect the land at Puerto Montt with the south. Located at the foot of the Northern Ice Fields, the San Rafael Lagoon has as a backdrop the great glacier wall that takes its name: the San Rafael Glacier. Large blocks of blue ice break off this glacier into the lagoon, creating an enormous garden of floating ice with different shapes and sizes. Declared by UNESCO to be a Biosphere Reserve, the San Rafael Lagoon shows the harmony of a native ecosystem where Black Necked Swans, Upland Geese, and a variety of ducks and Cormorants, united with the Coypous, Mountain Goats, Foxes, and Sea Wolves make up part of the beauty of an unexplored zone. Nothing compares to the majestic dawn that welcomes the sailors into the Lagoon; or the deafening sound of the icebergs breaking off from the glacier to feed the multicolored waters. In the middle of this indescribable scene, the passengers can go close up to the glacier in small boats and navigate through the whiteness of the floating ice and enjoy the traditional whisky with ice from the glacier.
