This reserve is known
as both "Altos del Lircay National Reserve" and "Vilches
Protected Area." It has an area of 16,684 hectares (36,704
acres), and within this area you can find beautiful, natural attractions
such as the Lircay River or the Los Coigües Gorge, or archaeological
sites of interest such as La Piedra los Platos.
The best seasons to visit this reserve are autumn and spring, when
there are not many visitors. The reserve does not have picnicking
or camping facilities, although it is still possible to camp. Bringing
pets, however, is not allowed. Fires are also prohibited.

How to get there
Santiago-Talca:
by land. From Santiago by Route 5 South, after the second
access to Talca (towards the south) is the turn for San
Clemente. From this city begin heading east, at kilometer
30, approximately, is the turn for Vilches and the reserve
is more or less at kilometer 63. See

Climate
In the area there is a warm-hot micro-climate,
with well defined seasons or similar length. In winter
the temperature fluctuates between 5° and 18°C (41°F
and 64°F), while in summer it can easily reach 30°C (86°F).
Rainfall measures between 1,550 and 2,000 mm (61 in. and
79 in.) per year. During the winter season, the snowfall
can measure up to 60 cm to 80 cm (23 in. to 31 in.)..
