Created in
1939, this park is situated in the pre-Andean plain of Nahuelbuta,
to the west of Angol in the La Araucanía region.
The mountains provide suitable conditions for the araucaria
to grow, a tree which is typically found in the pre-Andean
and Andean mountain chain. They are also found here, closer
to the coast, and there are some specimens calculated to
be around 2 thousand years old.
In the park, whose name means "big tiger" in Mapuche,
there are coigües, robles, lengas and insectivores as well
as the araucaria. Foxes, black woodpeckers, chucaos, and
churrines are some of the wildlife you might see from the
animal kingdom. The hills here do not exceed altitudes of
1,600 m (5,248 ft) above sea level, the highest being Piedra
El Águila, from which you can see the sea, the central valley,
and the Andean volcanoes. The park has camping and picnic
sites as well as marked trails for exploration.

La Araucanía region, the park is 35 km (22 mi) to the
northeast of Angol. Temuco is 132 km (83 MI) to the southeast.Location
How to get there
Santiago-Los Ángeles:
by air and land. From Los Ángeles to Angol by Ruta 5 Sur
(Route 5 South) and then from Collipulli by the Angol
road. Leave this city by the Colima road which is unpaved
and continue until kilometer 35 where you will find the
entrance to the park. See

Warm, temperate climate, with 6 wet months
and an annual rainfall between 1,000 and 1,500 mm (39
and 59 inches). The summer is dry and hot. The average
annual temperature is 13°C (55°F). There are snow-zones
between June and September.
