Yerba Loca Natural Sanctuary
|
| |
|
|
|
This Sanctuary has small forests
of both native and introduced species which, added to the variety
of birds and the imposing mountains that dominate the landscape,
are what give the life and individuality to this place.
It is in the "Villa Paulina" sector where we find the small
forests of ciprés de la cordillera, pino oregón,
álamo, olmo and fresno. All of these species were introduced
by the previous inhabitants of this area and also by Conaf, the
organization now in charge of its administration and protection.
Surrounding the marshy valley of Yerba Loca, there are two lines
of hills. The main heights are the hills of El Altar and Los Piches
at 5.222 and 4.274 msnm respectively, making this an attractive
destination for mountaineers.
