Lima
Capital of Peru, Lima stands out mainly for its historical buildings in the center of the city (palaces, churches and large houses among others), numerous museums, neighborhoods such as Miraflores and San Isidro, as well as a large variety of restaurants.
Cuzco
Called the “Historical Capital of Peru”, this city was the capital of the Incan Empire and the departure point of the Inca Trail which joined together all the empire. It has a style of architecture that is a mix of the Andean and the Spanish. Among these attractions, the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the churches of the Compañia, La Merced an San Francisco, as well museums such as the Arzobispal and Santa Catalina, among others.
Valle Sagrado de los Incas
This valley is situated between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, parallel to the Vilcanota River. It is formed by the numerous rivers, with their respective valleys that descend from the mountains and where we can find various archaeological ruins of the Incas: Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Tambomachay, Pisac, etc.
Pisac
With a mixture of indigenous and Spanish architecture, this colorful town is known for its traditional market, the archaeological ruins, the cultivated terraces, and its astronomical observatory.
Ollantaytambo
Located near Cuzco, Ollantaytambo is the most valuable part of the Valle Sagrado of the Incas. In these ruins we can find the cultural and architectural duality of the indigenous that inhabited it. This is expressed in two sections that make up the original Llagta Aragama Ayllu connected to the cult and the religion, and to the Qosqo Ayllu, which carried out the functions of residences and housing. This excellent example of Incan architecture is intact, conserving a large part of the original urban form with some buildings still in use. Besides the “ayllus” (constructions) already mentioned, we will also see a gigantic pyramid, “La Roca del Viejo” (the rock of the old man), connected paths, pre Hispanic stone quarries, and a marvelous religious center.
Machu Picchu
This city, at the peak of the Machu Picchu mountain, is thought to have been constructed by the Incas in the second half of the 15th century, with motives that still aren’t clearly established. It is the largest tourist attraction in the country and one of the largest architectural jewels in the world. The city is divided into an agricultural zone and an urban zone. The first is noted for its network of paths and artificial terraces, and the second for its temples, monuments and funeral chambers.
