Lakes District

In the south of Chile the Lakes District is characterized by having
a temperate climate in the summer, and a landscape of rolling hills,
a great number of rivers, volcanoes, lagoons, and of course, lakes.
In Pucón,
located on one side of the lake Villarrica, and among the surrounding
areas, there is rafting on the Trancura river,
hot springs, climbing
up to the crater of the Villarrica volcano,
fishing in the rivers, hiking through national parks (Huerquehue
and Villarrica),
and international sport competitions.
To the south there are more lakes: Calafquen,
Panguipulli, Riñihue, Pirihueico, Ranco,
Puyehue. This last one shares its name
with a national
park which is home to flora and fauna typical to a vegetative
zone characteristic of the south of Chile: the Valdiviano
forest. Further south on the banks of Llanquihue
lake, the towns of Frutillar and
Puerto Varas, are the center of tourist activity in the tenth
region.
From there, it's possible to get to places such as the national
park Vicente
Perez Rosales, see the Saltos (Falls) del
Petrohue, and visit the perfectly cone-shaped
Osorno Volcano, or to the capricious summit of
Puntiagudo Volcano. Also worth mentioning is the possibility
of crossing the Andean lakes Todos los Santos
(in Chile), Frias and
Nahuelhuapi (in San Carlos of Bariloche, Argentina) in catamaran.
